Let's Talk: Shaping the Council Plan 2021-25
The Council Plan sets the direction for Council to focus its efforts and each year has an action plan that shows what we will do to get to the end goal (Whittlesea 2040).
Last year Council committed $2m to a Community Recovery Fund to help our community recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to know how you think this money would be best spent to help our community rebuild.
During March, there were a variety of ways we asked our community to contribute to the conversation around the Council Plan 2021-25 and the Community Recovery Fund. Your views are important to us and we want to make sure that you can have a say. We recently released a new Community Engagement Policy which explains a new way of consulting with our community on issues of importance, like the Council Plan.
We are now collating all the ideas and will report back on what we’ve heard before prioritizing the actions. A draft Council Plan will be presented to Council for consideration later this year.
We are committed to ensuring we are inclusive in our consultation so if you have a particular needs to enable you to participate fully, or you have any questions about our next steps, please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 9217 2170.
During March 2021 we held a participatory budgeting workshop with a randomly selected representative group of community members seeking recommendations on how Council should spend the $2m COVID-19 Community Recovery Fund to best help rebuild our community post-pandemic.
Council is currently drafting a response to each recommendation made by this group and will formally respond to the group and the broader public in May / June 2021.
Council held focus groups to discuss your ideas for the Council Plan and to get feedback on what Council should put its energy into over the next four years.
Sessions were held on:
Tuesday 9 March at 6pm to 8pm online
Thursday 11 March at 6pm to 8pm online
World Cafe for people aged 70+ Friday 12 March from 10am until 12pm at the Civic Centre in South Morang
Council invited our community to join a climate change focus group to help us shape our City’s future by sharing their vision and insights into Whittlesea’s low carbon and climate-resilient future. Participants didn’t need to be an expert or familiar with all the climate change terms. This focus group was a chance for everyone to talk to us about climate change.
