Focus areas

The focus areas for this Economic Participation Plan has been identified to respond to the challenges and opportunities and to support the achievements and key directions in the Strong Local Economy Strategy. The plan actions are set out under each focus areas:

Priority Groups are Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders, Culturally & Linguistically Diverse, People with Disability, Women, Young People

Develop and implement local solutions that improve economic participation for priority groups and help meet local business needs and priorities. Proposed or potential initiatives may include:

  • continue partnership with HWLLEN in the delivery of the Whittlesea Youth Commitment
  • support seed collection and planting program to deliver training and volunteering outcomes
  • partner to hold an employment, career path and volunteering event.

Collaborate and support Industry alignment of workforce skills matched to local industry needs, now and into the future. This could be supported through:

  • facilitate partnerships between industry, education and jobseekers through targeted initiatives
  • promote Workforce Priority projects to support City of Whittlesea businesses to employ local jobseekers.

Collaborate with business and stakeholders to develop sustainable and inclusive employment practices and opportunities.

  • Implementation and management of an annual Inclusive Employment Program.
  • Deliver Work Ready volunteer program for qualified and newly arrived migrants.
  • Support and promote the Small Business Advisory Services and microbusiness ‘start ups’.

Develop and implement internal and external opportunities to expand social enterprise and social procurement initiatives.

  • Support services providers to identify and develop social enterprises.
  • Explore opportunities for a Social Enterprise Pilot Project.
  • Enhance social procurement outcomes.
