We have heard some concerns about traffic and speed along Gillwell Road, Lalor between Lifford Walk and Edgars Road.

We have assessed Gillwell Road, collecting and reviewing traffic data. Our assessment shows that the road needs safety upgrades to improve the safety of vehicles using Gillwell Road and the surrounding area.

Reducing vehicle speeds in residential areas reduces the number and seriousness of accidents, making streets safer. This is supported by Victoria’s Road Safety Strategy 2010-2022 and City of Whittlesea’s Road Safety Strategy 2017. The City of Whittlesea is committed to improving the safety of our streets for all users.

Council plans to install several safety measures which will follow Australian Standards, including:

• three new raised pavements
• one new raised priority path crossing on the bend near Lifford Walk
• any necessary upgrades to street lighting.

The work will take place over 18 months and are expected to start in early 2026.
