Traffic management measures are proposed for your street to improve road safety, address significant speeding traffic and create better connections to local parks, public transport, shared path trails and activity centres.

In line with Australian Standards and Austroads Guidelines, a review of traffic data and our investigation has not identified that your street requires further safety improvements at this time.

Please note that traffic calming devices such as speed humps are not used to address ‘hoon’ behaviour by a minority of drivers. Traffic calming devices are used to address streets with a majority of drivers speeding. Motorists’ speeds are enforced by Victoria Police and any observed instances of elevated speeds can be reported to the Hoon Hotline on 1800 333 000.

A flat top speed hump is a traffic management device designed to be less abrupt for motorists and buses, but effective at reducing vehicle speeds and improving road safety.

A wombat crossing is a flat top speed hump but features line marking and signs to provide pedestrians and cyclists crossing priority.

All traffic calming devices are designed and positioned in accordance with Australian standards and Austroads guidelines.

It’s difficult to address traffic congestion on local roads, as congestion usually occurs during morning and afternoon school peak times. We encourage you to consider other modes of transport if practicable, such as walking, cycling, public transport and carpooling to help alleviate congestion.

Speed limits changes are approved by the Department of Transport and Planning DTP) and must meet their set strict criteria and requirements.

Parking restrictions are considered in areas of high on-street parking demand and to provide balanced parking management for all road users and the broader community. Your feedback on parking management is welcomed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. However please note the City of Whittlesea does not have a residential parking permit scheme to exempt residents from complying with any parking restrictions that apply.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) are responsible for the provision and management of bus stops and bus routes.

No changes to bus stops or bus routes are proposed as part of this project.

Council officers will review all community feedback on the proposed plan. All suggestions made by the community will be assessed for consideration in the final design on the basis of cost, practicality, safety outcomes and compliance with Australian Standards and Austroads Guidelines.

The City of Whittlesea aims to provide you with the finalised plan in the coming months.

Works are anticipated to commence in 2024/25 when detailed designs are complete and may take up to three (3) years to complete.

Yes, residents will be notified by mail prior to the commencement of works.
