Wendy Jenkins

Council received a submission proposing that the Council feature located at 11 Mill Park Drive, Mill Park be renamed the ‘Wendy Jenkins Community Centre’.

Council considered this submission, to commemorate Wendy Jenkins and her valuable contribution to the community during her time as a Councillor for the Shire of Whittlesea from 1980 to 1984 and her volunteer work.

Council invited public submissions in relation to the proposal during the period 15 March 2022 to 14 April 2022. A total of 15 public submissions were received, of which eight (8) were in support and seven (7) were objections to the naming proposal for this particular feature.

Council’s Naming Committee for Features considered all submissions. Based on the feedback received, Council decided not to proceed with renaming the Centre at 11 Mill Park Drive, Mill Park – the “Wendy Jenkins Community Centre”. It was determined that there is not enough of a clear link to place (being the location in Mill Park) for naming this Centre, in commemoration of Wendy Jenkins. However, it was proposed that the proposed name (Wendy Jenkins) be added to Council’s bank of names and be considered for a feature located in Lalor or Thomastown. These areas were in the Central Riding ward for which Wendy Jenkins was a Councillor.
