Notice of Road Discontinuance and Sale - Sarissa Street, Lalor
In accordance with the Local Government Act 1989 and the Local Government Act 2020, Council has resolved to discontinue a section of road reserve (including splays) within Sarissa Street, Lalor. This land, referred to as the ‘Subject Land,’ is shown as the shaded area on the plan available on this webpage.
The motion to discontinue the road was carried by Council at the 18 March 2025 Council Meeting.
Council’s decision was based on the following considerations:
- The resolution does not
restrict any public rights of use or access as the road is unused
- It will not affect
neighbouring properties as the road is not used for vehicular access by
neighbouring properties
- It will not impact on the
movement of pedestrians or vehicles within the vicinity of the road
- It will not impede access to services, through maintenance or relocation of Council and/or service authority assets.
In direct response to community feedback, the decision to discontinue part of Sarissa Street in Lalor also considered:
- the location of nearby public toilets in Whittlesea Public Gardens, approximately 250 metres from the Subject Land;
- that the impacts of affordable housing in the proposed residential development will be explored as part of a project’s business case.
Following the review of submissions, Council has resolved to discontinue and potentially sell the identified section of road.
