The City of Whittlesea is upgrading the dog park at Whittlesea Public Gardens in Lalor to better meet the needs of local dog owners and their pets.

Council has been successful in securing a grant from the Victorian Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Park Program to upgrade a dog off-leash park at Whittlesea Public Gardens. We did community consultation from 15 July - 12 August to gain feedback on the draft concept plan.

Concept plan inclusions

Project Negotiables

Your feedback can influence elements of the park including:

  • the park layout
    • such as the size of the quiet dog zone
    • extent of gravel area
  • types of furniture in the park
  • location of furniture in the park.

Project Non-negotiables

There are elements of the park that you cannot influence the decision of. This includes

  • the number of shelters
    • Due to budget limitations, only one shelter is proposed for the main dog area. This decision ensures that the main dog area continues to function as the primary space of the dog park.

  • lighting
    • No lighting is proposed within the Dog park as Whittlesea Public Gardens operates in daylight hours only.

  • location of the off-leash dog park
    • This project is a refurbishment of the existing dog park and will therefore not change location.
