The City of Whittlesea is developing a Landscape Improvement Plan for Findon Recreation Reserve in Mill Park. This initiative aims to create a safer, more welcoming, and accessible reserve that supports community activity, relaxation, and social connection.

The plan will act as a comprehensive guide for future upgrades, strengthening the reserve’s character and ensuring it remains an inclusive place for all community members.

We would love to hear from the community about what improvements you would like to see in the future to help people feel more connected and safer. We are seeking community feedback on elements like picnic area, additional park facilities including lighting, drinking fountains and benches, and other upgrades that can improve comfort, accessibility, and community use.

Findon Recreation Reserve is a large municipal reserve in Mill Park, a well-established suburb in Melbourne’s north-east. The area has a rich history, originally part of rural grazing and horse-breeding lands before Mill Park’s rapid residential development in the late 20th century. The reserve occupies approximately 10.8 hectares, located at Roycroft Avenue, and serves as a key active recreation hub for the community.

The reserve features four soccer grounds, a pavilion with clubrooms, public toilets, and a children’s playground. It also includes open grassed areas and connected paths, making it suitable for both sporting activities and informal recreation.

The landscape improvement plan for Findon Recreation Reserve will guide the future use and upgrades of this municipal open space. Council will develop a plan that includes key recommendations to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to access and enjoy the reserve.

The plan aims to balance the needs of Mill Park’s diverse community with the facilities required for different types of activities, particularly active recreation. It will address opportunities to enhance usability, improve accessibility, and incorporate cooling and greening measures to respond to urban heat challenges. Importantly, the plan will ensure that Findon Recreation Reserve continues to meet the needs of both current and future residents, supporting health, wellbeing, and community connection.

In developing the improvement plan, Council is considering features such as seating areas, shelters, improved signage and lighting for safety and accessibility. Upgrades to existing paths and other elements are also being evaluated.
