Melbourne Water and Whittlesea Council are working together to update flood information for the City of Whittlesea area.

You’re invited to share your knowledge of flooding around our community on our interactive map below. By dropping a pin about local flooding and sharing key details about your experience, flood modelling experts will receive the information you share with us and use that information to check their model against your experiences. If the data matches, it helps us know we’re on the right track. If it doesn’t match, it's helpful as it will trigger further investigations.

The information we receive during our Phase 1 community engagement will be added to existing Council, DEECA and Melbourne Water data to create comprehensive flood maps.

These maps can be used to inform planning controls, emergency management, community awareness and mitigation works where possible. This will help ensure future developments are better designed to minimise flooding and hazard impacts.

Types of flooding

Flooding can be caused by many different rainfall events. When they occur, they can have a significant impact on our environment, wildlife, property and people living across the City of Whittlesea.

It’s important to know what kind of potential flooding may occur in the area you live, work and play. The more you know, the more prepared you will be.

Flooding can be caused by:

  • Waterway flooding

Rivers and creeks rising and bursting their banks.

This example is flooding at Whittlesea Showgrounds in Yea Road, Whittlesea from Scrubby Creek flooding.

  • Stormwater flooding

Rainwater exceeding the capacity of drainage systems.
