Ensuring your nature strip modification is right from the outset is the best way to minimise risk and avoid compliance issues.

Current approach

The Urban Nature Strip Guidelines provide residents/owners with permission to modify the nature strip(s) adjacent to their property. This permission is conditional on compliance to the requirements of the guideline and the taking out of a Works in Road Reserve permit at a cost of $30. Under the existing guidelines there is no assessment or approval of proposed modifications, meaning that some nature modified strips do not comply and can pose a danger for pedestrian or road users.

Proposed approach

Residents/owners will be required to apply for a specific ‘Nature Strip Modification Permit’ at a cost of approximately $88. Application will include the submission of a plan showing the proposed modifications which will be assessed and approved if compliant. Completed modification will be inspected to ensure they match the approved plans.
