Good public toilet provision supports active communities in their use and enjoyment of public places. It improves local comfort and convenience and can increase active participation in recreational, social and commercial activity.
We acknowledge there are different local community needs across our municipality, and the Public Toilet Amenity Plan sets out a framework for making accessible and inclusive public toilets available throughout all areas of the City of Whittlesea.
The City of Whittlesea is revising its Public Toilet Amenity Plan, incorporating community feedback. The updated plan will be reviewed annually to ensure relevancy and to inform future Council budget allocations in the capital program.
Key areas of the Public Toilet Amenity Plan include:
- Short, medium and long-term priority capital works plan, including both new and upgraded toilets
- Project selection criteria, including an assessment framework to assist in determining future upgrades or new facilities
- Service hierarchy outlining the type and scale of public toilet facilities and a selection guide
- Design toolkit with guidelines for the types of fixtures and finishes to be put in Council toilets, as well as how the toilets are sited (i.e. guidelines on how to place them on site - in well-lit areas, where others can see the entry, with safe access for pedestrians, maximise natural lighting, etc).
