Planned upgrades to Tramoo Street, Lalor

4 October 2023

Earlier this year, the City of Whittlesea wrote to residents and business operators asking for feedback on plans to turn Tramoo Street into a safer and more attractive shopping destination.

Council would like to thank all those who participated in the public consultation process and shared their thoughts in writing, online or face-to-face on the proposed measures.

The response to the upgrades was overwhelmingly positive, with respondents most in favour of:

  • New path connecting to supermarket
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on Tramoo Street
  • New meeting area with trees and seating
  • Upgraded pathway on High Street

Respondents also provided valuable feedback on a number of measures related to parking, safety and streetscape amenity, which Council will incorporate into the final plan wherever possible. This includes:

  • Increasing the number of 45-degree angled parks on High Street from the proposed seven to eight.
  • Including an accessible (disability) parking bay outside the medical centre in Tramoo Street.
  • Following discussions with Telstra, the old pay phone on the corner of Tramoo and High streets will be replaced with a modern pedestal unit so as not to detract from the planned installation of new seating, bins, trees and other landscaping improvements.
  • Council will install a set of bike racks in Tramoo Street for the convenience of cyclists.
  • A dedicated space for owners and occupiers to put out their bins for collection.
  • Council has also sought further technical advice from traffic experts to manage traffic movements in the precinct.

It is anticipated construction will commence in early 2024. More information will be provided closer to the commencement date.
