The City of Whittlesea is developing an Extreme Heat Discussion Paper that will inform the Strategic Heat Management Plan 2025, a critical component of its Integrated Extreme Heat Planning Framework. This initiative addresses the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme heat events driven by climate change. The report will guide Council's actions over the next five, 10, 50, and 100 years, focusing on public health, urban planning, and climate resilience.

Our Extreme Heat Plan is not just a set of guidelines, it's a commitment to protecting every member of our community during times of extreme heat. Together, we can ensure that everyone stays safe during an extreme heat event.

Extreme heat can impact our health and well-being, but this plan is a proactive step to protect our residents, maintain essential services, and create a stronger, more resilient community for the future. During a heatwave, Council’s top priority is to provide the resources and support needed to keep our community safe.

According to the Victorian Climate Science Report (2019), by 2040 we will have double the days above 40 degrees than we do now. What will you do on these days? Will you take your family somewhere to stay cool or will you try to avoid leaving the house? How can Council support you on these extreme heat days?

Have your say

We invite you to share what you do on hot days now or ideas of how Council can support you on these extreme heat days. Place a pin on the interactive map activity, fill out a very short survey and share your ideas of how to keep cool on hot days on the ideas board. The information we gather will help inform the Extreme Heat Guidelines.
